Suikoden V – PS2

The first Suikoden carved a legend in the series. Heroic tales that ended in apotheosis in the great epic battles and intense. We went from being footloose adventurer status of war chief, leading his men strategist. Alas, with time and suites, the series has lost flamboyance to be reduced to the stage with flickering spark Suikoden 4.
Ugly, hollow, soft, the latest installment in date had nothing for him, a trend confirmed by the heartbreaking Suikoden Tactics. Whereas in a half-torpid pessimistic, the 5th episode still gives the impression of having more in the belly than their elders. The franchise has taken it the hair of the warrior?
For several years now, the divorce from the fans had been consumed and served. Suikoden trying somehow to keep their heads above water, but each new release bogged down in mediocrity. The aion kinah was struck in the eyes of many the death knell of the series and the hope was finally extinguished after Suikoden Tactics that cloning no products talent competition.
Suikoden is one of those old school RPG that have either disappeared or chose to move, often to anything. While Final Fantasy manages to maintain after a few patches, just to see Breath of Fire on PS2 to understand the magnitude of the catatrophe. Specifically, those who still believed in Suikoden V is counting on the fingers of one hand, counting the supporters.
The return of the messiah by ambulance
What gives Suikoden V the dimension needed to be a good RPG, does not lie in a radical change of its foundations, but rather a return to basics and know-how mastered, made with application. It is a game wise, discreet, but cultivates his charm on the length, displaying a by one, its qualities. These, in comparison with other RPG on the market may seem outdated, but they have the charm of old tested recipes.
We sailed in the old interface: menus, submenus, ergonomic drawer. There are sometimes 4 levels of information before arriving at what we seek, but everything is meticulously tidy. The profusion of tabs is not as representative of an overflow of information that a willingness to compartmentalize everything. It is an excess of zeal unearthed from another era, but which has proved its worth. If the formatting you have not turned off, you can enter your name for the main character. It will be silent throughout the adventure, the baptism is a mere detail of customization that plays on the emotions. Rather appropriate, because our hair white endive is singularly lacking in charisma; destabilizing compared to previous heroes, but it is not innocent.
The game engine is much more work than the episode before, however, the textures are blurry, cottony. The environment lacks character and the hero disappears almost fade into the scenery. Thank her costume to have dressed for the carnival, we risk less to lose in a field of lettuce. Edge with their comrade, the secondary characters are assertive, colorful, responding to the canons of Japanese RPG. The cutscenes that use the engine are fully lined and the actors are convincing, the dialogue is natural and almost follow each other without trouble. One gets the feeling back his habits and his marks as the event progresses. The music did nothing exceptional, the same register as landscapes, but they are typical. A work order square that filled his contract melodic supermarket of heroic-fantasy.
No revolution no longer on the combat system. Old school from beginning to end. The fastest strike first, the Magi have a constitution of the stick insect warriors and give a kick to make SRF jealous. Cliché-cliché, but effective mechanics usually runs smoothly and the experience points fall in the wallet as a civil servant’s salary.
Almost choking, the classicism of Suikoden V is felt especially during the survey parties in town, when you drag your ailing hero in all locations until a scene triggers lively and propel the story. Luckily, you have the chance to have a bodyguard that follows you as your shadow and give you clues when you speak. It never stays blocked for a long time, but this course is quite frustrating when placed back to back with the competition. The method was to talk to a village to revive the intrigue is gone for years, but Suikoden V persists in spite of everything to survive at the expense of narrative flexibility.
