Music and Pain

Regarding the influence of music on chronic pain, several researchers have shown a beneficial effect. In this new study, music listening has been tested in sixty people aged 20 to 65, suffering from chronic persistent pain for many years (6
years on average) and resistant to conventional treatment. He was asked one third of volunteers to listen to music, that of their choice for an hour a day for one week. Another third of subjects had instructed to listen to relaxing music under the same conditions. The remaining third did not listen to music and served as the control group.

The music has a significant anti-pain

The first finding is that there is no difference by type of music played. Then, the music has been particularly beneficial. Indeed, one hour listening to music reduced pain by 21% on average and symptoms depression associated with this pain around 25%. During the interview, subjects report being less embarrassed in daily life and better able to manage their pain.
